About This Service

What is Kinesiology & Active Rehabilitation?

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. Registered Kinesiologists (R.Kin) are movement specialists who assess, design, and implement exercise-based programs to rehabilitate injuries, manage chronic conditions, and optimize physical performance.

Active Rehabilitation (Active Rehab) is a structured, progressive exercise program designed to help individuals recover from injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents (ICBC) or other physical trauma. Unlike passive treatments, Active Rehab empowers you to take an active role in your recovery.

At Locus Health Centre, our kinesiologists work closely with physiotherapists, chiropractors, and massage therapists to deliver a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to your care. Programs are tailored to your specific injury, fitness level, and goals.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between kinesiology and physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy focuses on assessment and hands-on treatment of injuries. Kinesiology focuses on movement science and exercise-based rehabilitation. The two disciplines complement each other well, and many patients benefit from both.

Is Active Rehab covered by ICBC?

Yes. If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident in BC, ICBC covers Active Rehabilitation with a registered kinesiologist. We are an approved ICBC provider and handle all billing directly.

How long is an Active Rehab program?

ICBC Active Rehab programs are typically 12 weeks, with sessions 2–3 times per week. The duration may vary based on your injury severity and progress.

Do I need a referral to see a kinesiologist?

No referral is needed for general kinesiology services. For ICBC claims, you will need approval from your adjuster or case manager, which our team can help facilitate.

What should I wear to my kinesiology session?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing and supportive footwear. Sessions involve active exercise, so dress as you would for a workout.
